Car rental driver is the UK’s fastest speeder
A driver from a car rental car firm faces jail after he became Britain’s fastest speeder by reaching an astonishing 172mph in a brand-new Porsche 911.
Timothy Brady took the £93,000 sports roadster for a spin from the car rental company where he worked as a courtesy car driver, and was spotted by traffic police driving at nearly three miles a minute.
When caught by officers the 33-year-old was travelling at more than 100mph above the national speed limit.
Brady, of Harrow, northwest London, admitted a charge of dangerous driving at Oxford Crown Court yesterday but denied another charge of aggravated vehicle taking without consent, relating to his unauthorised use of the car.
He was warned he faces a custodial sentence for his “extremely fast” driving. Recorder James Patrick granted Brady conditional bail but warned he was likely to go to jail.
“The defendant must assume that a custodial sentence is quite likely,” he said. “By releasing you on bail you must not think that I’m making any promises at all about how you will be dealt with.
“172mph is extremely fast.”
Brady was also disqualified from driving and ordered to return to the court for sentencing next month.
